HOT AIR BALLOONS!

HOT AIR BALLOONS!!

Thanks to a grant from The Manatee Education Foundation I was able to purchase a hot air balloon launcher as well as the materials to create the balloons.  Fifth grade students worked in small groups to build model hot air balloons.  It was challenging but so much fun when the balloons actually floated to the top of the PE area!!

Students learned that the hot air in the balloon is less dense
than the cooler air outside the balloon causing it to rise!

ENGINEER'S THINKING HATS

Students in kindergarten and first grade learned about making blueprints.  They drew their blueprint and then copied the same design onto their "thinking hats".

These hats have a pencil holder on the side.  When students want to remember their great ideas, they can grab their pencils and start writing!

Pictured above: Students wearing their hats and showing off their bluerpints.

Great job following the blueprint!

PUFF MOBILES!

What can Sea Breeze students create with these materials?

With a little imagination and teamwork.....

first, second and third grade students made cars.

Their car moves using "wind" power!

First Week of School 2015

After reviewing the class rules and expectations this first week of school,  we took time for a quick building challenge.  Third, fourth and fifth grade students worked in teams to build a structure using all the items in their bin.  Items included various blocks, craft sticks and cups.  Here are photos of some of this week's favorite structures!

What is IE2?

IE2 is short for Inspiring Elementary Engineering. This is what Manatee County Schools call their Elementary S.T.E.M. Labs.

At Sea Breeze Elementary all students from kindergarten through fifth grade participate in this class 40 minutes each week during their daily specials period.    They participate in many activities that emphasize problem solving
 and team work.

Below are a few photos showing just a few of the
 activities students did last year.

One of the students favorite activities was learning about electricity
using SNAP circuit sets.

Students made this well out of kinex and then performed an
experiment to find out how axle size affects the number
of turns needed to lift a bucket.

Students designed and built their own marble mazes.

Please visit this site throughout the year to see photos of the many cool activities students will be doing.
